On the artist(s): There are 3 as far as I can tell (it never directly says). The staff consists of what I think is one artist (Sarah) and 2 writers (one of which is Cassandra and another Jacob), though I may be wrong.

Defining Phrase: “My parents said I was going through a phase. Holy crap, were they wrong!”

In a nutshell: It’s pure evil if it was packaged in those cute little half-sized cans. You know, the ones that are a complete waste of money when you consider the cost compared to quantity but you keep buying them just because the cans are cute. Like that only for free.

The back-story: Prime Evil is a complicated guy. Long ago, a glitch in the world gave birth to a boss character that was stronger than any other. He was so strong in fact that he’s grown bored of taking out the many heroes that come to defeat him. Oh sure, he can take some of his time to talk to his therapist Dr. Killroy (whom he drugged and made a clone army from while he was out) or he can take a moment to talk to Herodoll, a stuffed hero that was given to him during a therapy session to vent his frustration on, but none of it is enough. His life had become an endless cycle of eating, sleeping, singing and killing useless heroes. If only there was some way to get out of his rut…

And then it hits him! He needs a hero to put up a decent fight for once! But how? If a hero that was a worthy challenge couldn’t be found in this world, perhaps he’d just have to go to another. Here we meet Ross. 14, gamer, nerd and now dragged away from home and in desperate need of leveling up. Needless to say he’s loving every minute of it! And that’s where our story begins.

Will Ross be able to level up enough to beat Prime Evil? Will Prime Evil ever learn healthy ways to vent his frustration? And what is this “color” that seems to be seeping into the world?

Well, you have to read it for the answers silly!

Site Design: Simple, clean and easy to navigate. Sides are basic including a blog, character info, story recap and a nifty little world map. The Character info has some interesting revelations so I recommend looking it over. I do, however, have some issues with the tagboard system they use as it’s a bit buggy and the fact that info on the creators is hard to find. Other than that I have nothing really to comment on or complain about, something I can’t say for a lot of sites on the net.

Art: The art is nice and smooth with clean lines and a style that is pleasing to the eye. This is a comic that is heavily influenced by anime though, so some may be turned off by that.

While not yet up to the "professional" bar to get an A, I personally like the “chibi” style of the world though as it really works with the writing involved. A lot of people take anime art as an excuse for crappy art. “It’s not crap! It’s just stylized!” they say. But Prime Evil is different. The artist(s? there are at least 3 people that are involved in this and I'm not sure what they all do) have a very effective use of composition, style, timing and color that really sets Prime Evil apart from most webcomics.

My only criticism here is that they recently switched from cell shaded screen tones to a more airbrushed style. I kind of liked the manga feel more than the current one. However that is a minor complaint as most other aspects of their art has greatly improved since the start of the comic. So all and all I have to give high marks here.

Writing: Funny! I particularly like some of the dialogue between Dr Killroy and Prime Evil. The writers do a good job of mixing story and humor in such a way that reading is an absolute pleasure.

I must say the writing has grown less funny as of late but I think that is because the story is starting to become more important than the humor. It’s too soon to see if this is a plus or a minus. Also, while reading the archives I found a few spelling errors. If of all people I find something then you KNOW there's a problem.

Overall: Prime Evil is a must read for manga fans and gamers. However, even if those aren’t your cup o tea I think you may enjoy this one. Good art, good story, good humor, good everything all on top of an fresh take on what is often a clichéd premise! Given a few years to improve I can easily see myself giving this an A.

This could be the next RPG world people!

Final Grade: B+

(My grading system is from A-F. A is professional quality and F is a bad sprite comic)
